Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 1 Corinthians 14:1-3.
I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him. I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf. Deuteronomy 18:18-19.
Deborah, the wife of Lappidoth, was a prophet who was judging Israel at that time. She would sit under the Palm of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites would go to her for judgment. Judges 4:4-5.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God says:
Today I want to talk with you about the office of prophet. You who believe in My Son and have received Him as your Lord are the body of Christ, and members individually. You all make up the Church, which is His Body on earth. And I have appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:28.
Prophecy is one of the gifts you receive from My Spirit. It is for the edification of the members of the Body of Christ, that is, the Church. The one who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for when you prophesy the church receives edification—it is built up in faith and is encouraged.
A prophet speaks My Words to the people. To qualify as a prophet you need to be willing to step out on the platform of the world and speak My message. Both women and men can be prophets. Abraham, Miriam, Deborah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Anna and many others are all listed in My Word as prophets. Exodus 15:20; Judges 4:4; Luke 2:36. Many of whom have their own books in the Bible.
Let Me define a prophet for you. A prophet is a conduit of My grace to the human race. He brings grace to the hearer. I counsel you in My Word to let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. That is prophecy. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:29-30.
The prophet brings who I am to those who hear. He edifies the church. This means his words build people up and do not tear them down. My Words are spirit and life. They give wisdom to the simple (the uncomplicated). They carry out My plans, which are plans for your welfare and not for your woe, to give you a future filled with hope. Jeremiah 29:11.
The prophet speaks My Words as I reveal them to him. I give him light and he then sheds that light abroad. Let your light shine before men. I am the light of the world, and I dwell by My Spirit in each born again believer. Let Me shine for all to see.
I desire that you would all be prophets.
A prophet is like a chauffeur and a microphone. He goes about to where My Spirit leads him and speaks the words My Spirit inspires him to say. I tell you not to worry beforehand about what you shall say that My Spirit dwelling in you will tell you and give you words and wisdom that no one can take exception to or contradict.
Remember Philip and the eunuch from Ethiopia? Remember Stephen before the Sanhedrin? Remember Paul before Felix?
Let Me define “prophet” for you under the New Covenant in more detail: A prophet is a born again believer, filled with the Holy Spirit, who continues the work of Jesus. And that includes all of you who believe in My Son. My Son was a prophet in the highest sense, He told you so Himself: He only spoke My Word and did the works that I showed Him. He never spoke on His own initiative, but only My Words of eternal life. In seeing Him, you see Me.
In times past I spoke in varied and partial ways through the prophets but now I speak to you through My Son. That is why I said the prophet continues the work of Jesus. Today’s prophet speaks the words of My Son. The Holy Spirit testifies to Jesus and freely gives you that which belongs to Jesus. Which is everything that belongs to Me. So My Spirit in you gives you the Words Jesus would now say to the world. And you as a member of His Body are qualified to do so.
So the office of the prophet did not by any means stop with John the Baptist! It very much exists today. I give you the five fold ministry for the building up of the Body of Christ, the Church on earth.
I have different gifts and callings that I give by My Spirit to you that make the Body of Christ function in a wonderful way. I have called and gifted many of you to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers in order to equip believers to do Kingdom work and build up the Church, the Body of Christ. This will continue until you all come to such unity in your faith and knowledge of My Son that you will be mature in Him, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then you will no longer be like immature children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every new teaching you hear invented by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, you will be able to speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of His Body, the Church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly with each person functioning in a gift from My Spirit for the good of all. And as each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
A prophet speaks the truth in love.
To be a prophet you must desire it. You must pursue love above all else and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. So it all begins by pursuing love and desiring the spiritual gifts. And to desire them, you must be aware of them. You must know what prophecy is and what it does to earnestly desire it.
If you have love in your heart, and you do if you believe in My Son as your Lord for I then pour My love in your heart through the gift of the Holy Spirit, then you want to upbuild and bless others, for while knowledge inflates, love upbuilds. Prophecy upbuilds others. One who prophecies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to people. 1 Corinthians 14:3.
You will never prophesy if you are not actively living and pursuing a lifestyle of love. A prophet must be sensitive to My voice and be able to discern what I am speaking to My people. To access this communication with Me, a prophet must stay on the same wavelength that I am on or he will not hear My voice even though I am speaking. He must be on the right channel, so to speak, to hear what is broadcasting. And I am love. I think in love, talk in love and walk in love, all else is foreign to Me and does not enter My realm. It cannot because it is not on the right frequency and cannot access My wavelength. That is why the majority of the Israelites never entered My rest. They never got on My wavelength. They stayed in the doubting, fearful, complaining, blaming frequency which is void of faith and love.
That is why My servant Paul prefaces receiving spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy, with pursuing love. And when you pursue love, you pursue Me, for I am love.
To hear My Voice you must be on the love frequency at all times, for then you have entered My rest. When you are in strife, anger or bitterness you are not in My rest and you will not be listening.
Jesus was walking in love at all times. He said I never left Him alone because He always did what pleased Me. John 28:29. Well, the way you please Me is by walking in love at all times. Faith works by love. Love fulfills the law. Anyone who loves is born of Me and knows Me. And a prophet must know Me or he cannot speak My Words.
The prophet’s job is to love. The rest comes from Me. When you love you stay on My channel and hear My broadcast.
Are you willing to step into the office of the prophet? I would that you all prophesy. Speak My Words to the world. They are thirsting for the water of life.
And start by speaking them to yourself. To build up others, you need to be built up too. Declare who you are and what you have in Christ Jesus and you will take your rightful place of authority over all that is evil.
I love you. Live in love and you will hear from Me. And then be willing to step out in faith and speak the truth in love. Shine on the world like bright stars, you are offering it the Word of Life.
