“Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you.” Isaiah 55:3.
But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God says:
Do not complicate things. At any given moment there is only one thing necessary for the good part. And what is that? My Word for that moment. I tell you to do the same for others, “Let no corrupt word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29. And I tell you to imitate Me as My dear children, so don’t you suppose that I do this for you?
And where do you find the Word I am giving you as the one thing you need to focus on for that moment? “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (εὔκαιρος (eukairos): timely, opportune, seasonable, convenient).” Hebrews 4:16. You have to consult Me and I will direct you to a Scripture or speak it to you directly by My Spirit in your spirit, but it will be in perfect alignment with My written Word. The Holy Spirit guides you to all truth and reminds you of what I said, and My Word is truth, in fact, My Word is the way, the truth and the life.
There are many good promises and much advice for every situation in My Word, but there will always be a specific ONE for your situation that speaks to your heart right for the moment when you need it. Don’t worry beforehand about it, My Spirit in you will speak it to you if you seek it right when you need it. Seek and you shall find the one thing necessary at that moment. And there will only be one. I am not a God of confusion but of peace. And the one thing will always bring peace with it. If it does not, check it out carefully, for when you get the Word, you know it for it goes off like a light in you. A rhema Word.
When the devil approached Eve, and Adam was right there at her side, his purpose was to get her off the one thing and turn it into a multitude of choices. This is what he did to get her focus off the one thing, and this is still his tactic, so I do not want you to be unaware of his tactics in dealing with you so you can know what to do. The devil opened up the dialogue with Eve as follows, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from every tree of the garden’?” So he started off mentioning Me and My Word but he twisted it to make her feel deprived of perfect freedom. The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” She added the not touch it part but she knew the one thing to focus on about that tree: “Do not eat its fruit or you will die the death.” That really was the one thing necessary at that moment. But the devil did not give up, he said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Now she was given a choice that sounded very tempting. Now she reconsidered the tree as a choice and what did she see? She now looked at it differently, and saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, so after pondering on all those things, instead of focusing on the one thing, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. And that brought disaster into their lives and the lives of all those descended from them according to the flesh. You could call it “Pro Choice.” They had the one thing necessary to focus on at that moment, but they instead chose to complicate it with choices given them contrary to My Word by the devil and began to consider those in their minds as a reasonable option.
Sound familiar? You see it in many aspects of life today where really there is no choice but only one thing necessary. But the beautiful result you desire will always be from the one thing. It will ALWAYS produce the better part. My Son told Martha, who had so complicated her life that there was no room for hearing the Word that she needed for the moment, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42. She would not always have My Son with her in quite the way He was in her home at that moment and she was missing it all by giving herself choices to leave His teaching and prepare the meal. And she even interrupted His teaching to command Him to tell her sister to leave His feet listening to His Word to help her prepare the meal in the kitchen. It is not wrong to prepare lovely meals for your guests but at that moment it was NOT the one thing necessary for Martha to have the best result in her life. And if she had asked Jesus, He would have told her the one thing necessary at that moment. He would not always be at her house visiting in the same tangible way.
And sometimes the one thing surprised the disciples with Jesus. Do you recall the incident when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper, very shortly before His death? A woman came with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume of pure nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head. But some were indignantly remarking to one another, “Why has this perfume been wasted? For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred denarii, and the money given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to Me. For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial. Truly I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.” Mark 14:3-9. She had done the one thing necessary for that moment. Giving to the poor is good, and in fact My Son told the rich young ruler the ONE thing necessary for him to have eternal life with full reward was to go and sell all he had and give it to the poor and then to come and follow Jesus, but instead of doing the one thing, he considered the many things he owned and saw how complicated it would be to sell his many businesses and possessions and went away sad. He did not see the exceeding value of being a disciple of Jesus with an invitation to be fully included in His team that went about so closely associated with Jesus and living lives filled with wonders and supernatural provision. But when it is not the one thing I have told you to do with what you have, do not just go do it because My Son told the rich young ruler to do it.
There are certain Words you must always do, such as the ten commandments and walking in love, watching your thoughts and your words so they line up with Mine, rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving constant thanks. Casting out demons and laying your hands on the sick so they recover. But be seeking the One thing necessary for that moment to focus upon.
Let Me give you an example. Say that you keep regretting and crying over a sin you have committed in the past, or just a foolish rebellious choice you made that put you on a path that has not turned out to your liking, and you cannot seem to get over the feeling that I am disappointed and angry with you about it and you have lost your opportunity to go into your Promised Land, as Moses and the Israelites lost theirs. But let Me now tell you the one thing necessary for you to do if the devil is troubling you with accusations in this area though My Spirit is trying to witness to your spirit that your sins and offenses I remember no more. It is simply this Scripture, “but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14. If you just focus on this one thing each time you want to go into complicated recriminations about what you did and how it messed up your life, you will have great peace beyond all understanding. When the thoughts come, and they will if you love Me, just tell those thoughts, “No, none of that, I am focusing on only one thing: forgetting what lies behind, I am pressing on towards the goal of the prize of my high calling in Christ.” And if you will focus on the ONE thing, everything else will line up.
I love you. Pray for your one thing each day and then each moment of the day as you need it. “The Lord LORD (Adonai Yahweh) has given Me the tongue of disciples, That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. And I was not disobedient nor did I turn back.” Isaiah 50:4-5.
