Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10.

Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלבים) says:

I shall run the way of Your commandments, for You will enlarge my heart. Psalm 119:32.

How do I enlarge your heart? You and I together clean out the clutter by purifying your heart.

You cannot control your tongue, keep out of sin, have perfect peace, and walk in the joys of eternal life now without a clean heart. A heart filled with worry, anxieties, depression, hatred, resentments, bitterness, greed, immorality, idolatry, wicked schemes, gossip, talebearing, selfish ambition, jealousy, strife, anger, fear, or the like is not a clean heart.

And whether you hold on to a lot of these things or just a few, indeed, if you have any of these bitter roots in you, even just one, the part of your heart where you walk with, converse with, and receive from Me will be very constrained and restricted, maybe even nonexistent, with all the things you have hoarded over the years, and keep adding to, and have not cleared out which are filling up your heart and overflowing into your mouth. And, worse yet, are tormenting you.

You need to be a very vigilant and diligent housekeeper to keep your heart clean and a very vigilant and diligent gardener to keep the weeds from taking root. But really it is not difficult to keep your heart clean if you immediately answer every impure, wicked, idle, accusatory, unwholesome, angry, hateful, depressed, fearful, worried thought or feeling the moment it tries to enter. Do not struggle with it, for then you are feeding it with your attention, just answer it very firmly with My Word that addresses that thought or feeling and release your faith that it is done and smile knowing that thought or feeling did not originate with you but with an unclean spirit also known as the devil and his demons and you have the authority to put them out.

Be sure you answer with what My Word says about you or about that exact train of thought. Such as if it is an impure immoral thought, just tell it you are pure in Christ, washed in His blood and holy and blameless before Me, and you do not need to bother with those kinds of thoughts because you are a new creation in Christ and have the mind of Christ. And then relax and enjoy your purity in Christ. Do not be all horrified that you thought that and begging Me to forgive you and calling yourself impure. It was not from you, though it is trying to enter your head. What I have cleansed you do not call impure, and if you have taken Jesus as Lord, I have cleansed you in His blood and continually do so as you walk in My light.

Once you get skillful in answering thoughts with the proper Scripture, you will find it knocks that thought out and shuts the door to it every time while you maintain your pure, peaceful enlarged heart where I have full room to dwell with you and converse with you as I give you more and more revelation into these things. Just swat that lord of the flies off with My Word and continue on. You have better things to think on that I share with you. Do not listen to the stranger’s voice. He is a thief and murderer from the beginning.

A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a rock garden locked, a spring sealed up. Song of Songs 4:12.

But Satan, you must understand, never gives up. He figures that just because you were on guard once, or even multiple times, there will come a point when he can sneak in like the thief in the night and steal what is yours until he kills and destroys you. You have to check his diabolical game of chess every time or he will take all the pieces of your life captive to do his will.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10.

And how do I tell you to deal with hist tactics? It is quite clear:

Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:7-8.

The word translated “submit” is the Greek word “hupotassó (ὑποτάσσω),” which means you join My ranks and march with Me as your leader, we fall in step together. And two can only march together if they agree. So it means you “shama” My Word, that is, you hear it, listen to it, heed it, obey it, and speak it.

And I want you especially to look at the word translated “resist.” It is the Greek word “anthistémi (ἀνθίστημι),” which means to take a complete stand against, i.e. an 180 degree, contrary position, and it means to forcefully declare your conviction upon which you unswervingly stand and to keep your possession; to ardently withstand, without giving up (letting go).

And that shows you how you are to resist the devil and his demons, you take your stand on the rock of My Word and you forcefully declare it and keep hold of all the benefits Christ died to give you and refuse to let go. And when you put your foot down and dig your heel deep, you crush his head yet another time and he cannot strike your heel. Genesis 3:15.

And the result? He has to flee from you, and that means run to escape. Put the devil on the run and never let him run you around.

But if you want to keep him on the run, you must draw near to Me, for when you are in Me, I keep you and the evil one cannot touch you. And how to stay in Me and keep the devil out of you? Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8. You purify your heart with My Word and that will keep your hands clean and faith strong.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your Word. Psalm 119:9.

Mary, the mother of My Son according to the flesh, had a pure heart. She was full of grace. How was that? She did everything according to My Word. She told the waiters at the wedding feast her own way of living, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” John 2:5.

But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. Luke 2:19.

Your Word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You. Psalm 119:11.

Jesus told His disciples the night before He gave His life on the cross for you, “You are already clean (purged, purified) because of the word which I have spoken to you.” John 15:3.

Do not let revengeful thoughts or thoughts of wishing another would die never be tolerated in your mind and heart. Eternal life does not reside in a murderer’s heart. That is the devil’s nature. Guard your heart against every form of evil before it finds a way to lodge there. Give the devil no place by keeping your attention on the right thoughts and refusing to fellowship with thoughts contrary to My Word for even one second.

My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body. Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put devious speech far from you. Proverbs 4:20-24.

I see not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the I look at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7. Write My Words on the tablet of your heart.

Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 7:2-3.

And how to you write on your heart? What you hear, read, think, say, and sing writes on your heart the operating system by which you live.

My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. Psalm 45:1.

My Holy Spirit, through My servant David in Psalm 51, gives you the way to have a clean, purified heart. And you will see again it is by the blood, the water and the Spirit. It is by the way, the truth and the life. Everything rests on those three which all come to you in Jesus to be pure and holy as I, your Father, am pure and holy. I want you complete in Christ, who is your way, truth, and life revealed.

Therefore be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48.

For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. James 3:2.

Be perfect as I am perfect. And this will make your life one of shalom for you will have a pure, peaceful, joyful, righteous heart of love.

For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:14.

And what was the offering? His blood.

Now let us consider Psalm 51, written by David after he had committed a sin of adultery which then led to a sin of murder. But his heart was a repentant heart that ran to Me for the cure for sin. He looked ahead to Christ but he looked back to Passover and he knew the Mosaic law. He looked for salvation by the blood, the water and the Spirit.

And let Me say here is that is the way I purified hearts as well under the Old Covenant until Jesus paid the price in full. I taught them the sacrifice of the unblemished lamb presented with the grain offering of the unleavened bread and the drink offering of a hin of wine and I had the priests offer this every morning and evening for the people and unto Me to keep judgement and wrath for sin off My covenant people.

I gave them and taught them My Words and they wrote them down as sacred and holy, copying them onto scrolls exactly as I gave them and they required their children and households to learn them, to memorize them, to speak them, and to keep them before their eyes, even writing them on their walls, gates, doorposts and keeping them hanging before their eyes.

And I gave them the anointing for their priests, prophets and kings and My Holy Spirit would rush on them and the prophets would announce My Words to the people. But My Spirit was not in them yet as their spirits were not yet born again until Christ your true Passover was sacrificed once for all. But they had great revelation, especially about the coming Messiah which they share with you who would be in the times of the fulfillment of those prophecies.

We have the prophetic word made sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. 2 Peter 1:19-21.

And so begins Psalm 51:

Give grace to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Psalm 51:1-2.

He runs to My grace, My throne of grace, and reminds Me of My unconditional love and My great compassion for your weaknesses and failures. He knew that My grace would be sufficient for him, but he did not just want forgiveness and the sin to remain. He wanted a thorough washing away of the iniquity and sin so that he would be free from the guilt and the shame and able to come into fellowship with Me again.

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge. Psalm 51:3-4.

This is humble repentance, not blaming Me or another person for his sin. Adam blamed Me and Eve. She blamed the devil, but neither of them repented. They had fear and remorse, but they never ran to Me and acknowledged they had sinned. David did and that put him in a place for grace. I resist the proud but give grace to the humble.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:5-7.

This is full of insight and revelation. You are all born in iniquity and sin for you are all descendants according to the flesh of Adam and he was born again to the corrupted seed of the devil’s lies. But what is the remedy? To desire truth in your innermost being, that is, desiring to take in My Word as the desire of your heart. And My Word will go to work to give you wisdom and to cleanse and renew your mind.

And next he asks Me to purify him with hyssop. He is talking about the first Passover, when the blood of the Passover lamb was painted on the door posts and lintels of all the homes of My covenant people with the hyssop branch. And the destroyer could not enter those homes where the blood had been pained with the hyssop branch.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew (restore, repair) a strong spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51:10-12.

And here he gets to the basic problem of sin, an impure heart. A wicked heart. A heart that strives against Me. But David knew the only way to get a clean heart since the fall of Adam was for Me to make a new creation, to take out your stony heart and put in a heart of flesh and put My Spirit in your heart, the strong Spirit that raises you to new life and makes you the master rather than sin.

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. Ezekiel 36:25-27.

David knew My presence with him was the Holy Spirit upon him and he besought Me not to take My Spirit away from him as My Spirit had left Saul when he let jealousy and hatred enter his heart and turned  away from Me, and as Samson had done as well when he sinned. He asked Me to give him the joy of My Salvation, the anointing of the oil of joy with which I anointed Yeshuah, My Son, and your Salvation. For He saved My people from their sins.

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my Salvation; then my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness. O LORD, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Your praise. Psalm 51:14-15.

He asked Me to deliver him from his guilt for shedding innocent blood, how? By My Salvation who would come and shed His blood to take away all your sins and satisfy My justice. A life for a life. You must remember that David wrote Psalm 22 and Psalm 23. He knew about the crucifixion in all its details of My Son and he longed to be part of so great a Salvation.

And how should you respond to so great a salvation that I have worked for you in My Son to purify your heart? With joyful songs of praise. Not with more guilt, shame, and begging forgiveness. Once you have repented, confessed your sin to Me, and applied the blood, you should begin the celebrating what I have done for you in Christ Jesus your Lord.

And what is David’s response to all this?

I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will be converted to You. Psalm 51:13.

It is My goodness, My love, and My forgiveness that removes every trace of your sins that leads people to repentance. And David had experienced it.

I love you. Watch what thoughts you are letting in and what words you are letting out. You can live pure only if you have a pure heart. And the purer your heart, the more you can hear from Me. Enlarge the place in your heart for Me by cleaning out the clutter of those things you have been hanging onto that would encumber your progress. You know what I am talking about. No matter how long you have been harassed with fears, depression, addictions, or pain, it is time for you to answer those unclean spirits with My Word and cast them out in Jesus’ Name. And then release your faith for a happy, peaceful life that nothing and no man can take from you no matter what. You ignore them by answering them with the truth of who you are in Christ, what you have in Christ, and all the magnificent promises in My Word which are yes to you in Christ. And say “amen” to that. Live pure, live free.
