On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.” John 12:12-13.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
Jesus fulfilled the Law and the prophets. He stepped out of the old into the new and brought all creation with Him. In Him everything is moved to a new level in the Spirit. In Christ, I created you anew as if sin had never been. And when He comes the second time, death is the last enemy that I will put under His feet.
For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 1 Corinthians 15:25-26.
It will be the long-awaited redemption that all creation is groaning for even now.
For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Romans 8:19-21.
Adam put everything on the earth into corruption and death, but Jesus has brought everything into newness of life. When I raised Christ from the dead, I raised everything to walk in newness of life. I reconciled all things to Myself in Him. He is your Jubilee! Your debt to Me is paid for the eternal life Adam lost, your sentence satisfied and you are set free, and all restored better than before.
And after He had called Lazarus out of his grave to newness of life, all creation was listening and new hope ran through the land. And it reached a joyous peak on what you now call “Palm Sunday,” My Son’s triumphal entry amidst His disciples and the children into the city of Jerusalem up to the very Temple Mount. And it had all been spoken into the earth before time by My prophets.
I do nothing without first revealing it to My prophets. Why? A person with dominion authority must release My Word into the earth by faith so that I am authorized to perform it.
Surely the Lord (Adonai) LORD (Yahavah) does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord LORD has spoken! Who can but prophesy? Amos 3:7-8.
After Jesus had called Lazarus out of the grave after he had been dead for four days, the chief priests and the Pharisees heard of it and held a council. They were alarmed at all the signs Jesus was performing because this was bringing many people to believe in Him and they feared the Romans would come and take away their position and their nation. The final decision by the High Priest Caiaphas was it was better that Jesus die for the people than the whole nation perish. John 11:46-52.
So from that day on they planned together to kill Jesus. Lazarus rising was the turning point when they became determined to murder Jesus.
Therefore Jesus no longer continued to walk publicly among the Jews, but went away from there to the country near the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there He stayed with the disciples. John 11:54.
Now the Passover was near, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the Passover to purify themselves. So they were seeking for Jesus, and were saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think; that He will not come to the feast at all?” Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might seize Him.
And if you again refer to the timeline of the prophet Daniel, the appointed time for the Messiah to be cut down was near. Christ your Passover was about to be sacrificed.
Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, as He headed for Jerusalem, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they made Him a supper there, and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
But Judas Iscariot said, “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor people?” Be careful what your motives are when you criticize. Here it was greed but he tried to clothe it in concern for the poor. His real motive was not concern for the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it. Therefore Jesus said, “Let her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial. For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.” John 12:6-8. Judas felt reprimanded by this and resented Jesus for correcting him before the others, whom he felt superior to because his education was of a higher level. Judas took offense at Jesus. It was then, though he had already been tempted by the offer of money the priests and Pharisees had set forth as a reward to the one who would report Jesus’ whereabouts in a place where they could seize Him without the crowds being present, that he made the decision to do so, which he did very shortly after this incident. Matthew 26:11-16.
How did Satan pull a disciple who had left everything to follow Jesus when called into betraying Jesus and destroying himself? It all started with fear for his future, so he began to take money from the common purse secretly, putting it aside for himself, it then moved into greed for more gain, and then his pride at his education and higher worldly qualifications led him to take offense at correction and not being in the favored position of Peter whom he also considered beneath him in social standing because Judas was the only Judean among the apostles, while the others, including Peter and Jesus, were Galileans. But ultimately the problem was that Judas let Satan into his heart through greed, pride, and offense and eventually Satan took him captive to do his will and then poured shame and remorse upon him to the point that he destroyed his own life. You will note at the Last Supper when the other disciples called Jesus “Lord,” Judas consistently called him only “Teacher.”
For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. Hebrews 6:4-8.
A large crowd of the Jews learned that He was at the home of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary so they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also; because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus, as I stated before. John 12:9-11.
Jesus then headed for the Passover in Jerusalem, and the large crowd that was in the city for the Passover heard from those who had gone out to see Him at the home of Lazarus that Jesus was coming and they were excited to greet Him. Many of those present in the city, for it was the pilgrim feast of unleavened bread, had heard Him speak and had been healed or knew of those healed by Him. Some were those that were present when He multiplied the loaves and the fish.
And Jesus, knowing His time was near, followed My direction and sent two disciples to fetch a donkey and the colt (foal of a donkey, which is a mule) for Him to ride into the city as Zachariah had prophesied many years before. Jesus was tall, the donkey was too small, He needed the colt. But Zachariah knew.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is righteous and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9.
When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” Matthew 21:1-2.
So those who were sent went away and found it just as He had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord has need of it.” They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. Luke 19:32-35.36 As He was going the large crowd took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.” John 12:13.
They did not know they were fulfilling Psalm 118:
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. this is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. O LORD, save now I pray (hoshiyah הוֹשִׁ֘יעָ֥ה na נָּ֑א); O LORD, send prosperity now (hoshiyah הוֹשִׁ֘יעָ֥ה na נָּ֑א). Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless You. The LORD is God, and He has made His light shine upon us. Join in procession with leafy branches up to the horns of the altar. Psalm 118:22-27.
Then the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, shouting: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19:37-38.
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!” Luke 19:39-40.
When He approached Jerusalem, despite the joyous crowd, when He saw the city He wept over it, saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.” Luke 19:41-44.
Many of that crowd who was singing and shouting His praise, declaring Him a King, would soon be yelling to crucify Him and release Barrabas instead of Him.
When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.” Matthew 21:11.
And those coming into the city with the crowd with the palm branches who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. For this reason also, the people in the city went and met Him as well, hearing that He had performed this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are not doing any good; look, the world has gone after Him.” John 12:17-19.
Jesus then entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.” And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. Matthew 21:12-14.
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that Jesus had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant, it was all too much for them to handle at this point, so they said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” Matthew 21:15-16.
From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength because of Your adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful cease. Psalm 8:2.
And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there. Matthew 21:17. But each day He would return and teach in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to destroy Him, and they could not find anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to every word He said. Luke 19:47-48.
I love you. Jesus had many conversations in this passage to Jerusalem for His final Passover on earth as one of you. But it was in this week that He became the Passover meal Himself. The Everlasting Covenant I began with Noah was about to be amended and restated in its final revision, having all the promises and assets with which it began plus new a better promises and fulfillments of Old sacrifices by the One perfect eternal Sacrifice of Jesus, My Son. It was now perfect and complete, just as each of you have been made in Jesus.
