I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart. Psalm 40:8 (9, NAB).
Today your LORD (יהוה) God says:
Today I want to talk with you about hearing My voice. To hear My voice your heart must be tuned to Me. You must be on the right channel. And it is the faith channel which works by love and is on the light wavelength. The channel where grace and favor can flow.
You may be wondering what it means to have a heart tuned to Me.
Let Me define it. I define it in My Word, of course, or I would not tell you to do it.
Having a heart tuned to Me means that to do My Will is your delight and My Word is within your heart. Psalm 40:8.
Now, let Me tell you the basics to hearing My voice and having meaningful conversation with Me.
There is nothing complicated about hearing from Me and talking with Me. If you desire to hear from Me, you will. If you call to Me in truth, I will answer you. But you have to understand how you hear from Me.
You will not hear Me audibly with your natural ears as an outside voice. Since My Son died and rose from the dead people are able to be born again into My Kingdom and their spirits come alive again– your spirits are born again from the death that came to your spirits from Adam’s sin. My Son redeemed and raised your dead spirits to new life so you are a new creation in Christ if you have received Him as your Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:17. So I no longer have to communicate with you as I did with the prophets of the Old Covenant, from My Holy Spirit on them and not in them. That is why the Israelites heard My voice to Moses on the mountain, but to them it sounded like trumpet blasts and they could not discern the words as Moses could. I spoke to Jesus a couple of times that way when He was on earth, remember when the crowd thought My voice was thunder but some discerned it as an angel speaking? John 12:29. And on the mount of the Transfiguration I spoke audibly to the disciples of Jesus present there. I can communicate from outside you as a tiny whisper too, as I did as I passed by Elijah on Mt. Horeb. But now, in these latter days, I generally choose not to communicate with you in this manner.
Since My Son’s death and resurrection, I have sent My Sprit to live in your spirits to constantly teach, enlighten and guide you. So I speak to you by My Spirit which dwells in your spirit. Since My Spirit is speaking within you in this way, what I am telling you will be conveyed by your spirit to your soul (which is your mind, your will, and your emotions) and thus when your spirit prompts, or enlightens, your mind with what I revealed to you by My Spirit it will sound like your own inner voice speaking inside or you will perceive it as a mental picture, as you can with your own thoughts and daydreams. Sometimes your spirit will simply convey My message to you as a prompting to do something, an impression, a thought, an inward witness or a leading.
The result of this, of course, is you will not be able to discern My voice if you have a dead spirit and have not been born again because, as I just stated, My usual mode of speaking with you since My Son died and rose again is by My Spirit joining with your spirit and speaking with you Spirit to spirit. Thus, it takes a spiritual person, one with a living spirit that is, to understand and perceive spiritual things. 1 Corinthians 2:14.
So the first step to really hearing My voice is confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that I raised him from the dead. Romans 10:9-10. In other words, being born again into My Kingdom of Light. Do just as Peter outlined for the first Jewish converts on the Day of Pentecost when My Spirit returned to dwell in My people. Acts 2:38.
After receiving Him as Lord you become one of My own children, sheep of My flock, and My sheep hear My voice and they know Me. John 10:5, 27.
Next, get filled with My Holy Spirit. This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit that John the Baptist spoke of that he said would be done by My Son. There is a difference between having My Spirit dwelling in you and being filled with Him. You will note they differentiated believers that way in the book of Acts. The deacons they chose had to be filled with the Holy Spirit and faith. Acts 6:3. And when the believers prayed, even though they were indwelt with My Spirit, they got further filled with My Spirit. Acts 4:31. Ask Me for the Holy Spirit and My Son will pour Him out on and in you. John 14:16-17. Then the gifts of My Spirit can operate freely in your life. And you will speak in your own prayer language, called tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:5, 18.
Next, have My Word in your heart. I communicate by My Word. And you have a book full of My Words—the Bible! Read them, hear them, meditate on them and My Word will speak to you as you do.
Be familiar with My Words from the Bible and you will begin to hear My Spirit, Who spoke those Words to those who were tuned to Me, revealing precious things to them.
Let My Word be your plumb line to test everything in your life.
Next, listen. Be still and know that I am God. Give Me a chance to talk with you. Do not do all the talking in your prayer time. Ask Me questions. Ask Me if I want to tell you something. Sit down in a comfortable chair with Me (after all, you will be seated with Me on My throne in Heaven, Revelation 3:21, and I see you there now, Ephesians 2:6, Hebrews 4:16). Ask Me for advice and give Me a chance to talk. Make it a habit to refer matters to Me throughout your day when they come up. Train yourself to be aware of My presence by thanking, praising, and talking to Me in your heart all day long. I am there 24/7. I never leave you or forsake you. Reach out and hug Me once in awhile. Put your hand on your heart sometimes when you talk with Me, acknowledging the presence of My Spirit within you.
Look to Me. Have your eyes on Me even while they are on other things in your life. Keep your eyes on Jesus in your inner vision.
During the day do not always be looking down, lift up your eyes every once in awhile. It will clear your mind and enlarge your perspective.
Next, watch your words. Make sure your words line up with Mine. It is hard for Me to talk to a mocker, gossip, slanderer, angry person, fearful person, or depressed person. They are so full of themselves they cannot hear Me over the inner noise. Proud people are the same. I resist the proud but give grace to the humble.
And do not speak words that cancel Mine. When My Word tells you that I am your Healer and that you were healed by the stripes of My Son do not run around saying you will surely get the flu because everyone in your office has it! You will get what you say. I will not violate your free will.
And above all desire and delight to do My Will and you will hear My voice. I love a cheerful giver. And I need laborers in My vineyard, for My people die of thirst and they need someone to refresh them with the Good News and bring them to higher ground (out of the pit). And My Will for you is good, a life of good deeds prepared in advance (Ephesians 2:10), a future filled with hope and prosperity. Jeremiah 29:11. Why would you not want to do it? It is My plan for your happiness and fulfillment and you really will not be happy doing anything else, for My Will is who you are.
Now I have given you the steps to hearing My voice. Follow these and you will hear Me. All the time. If you choose Me, I cannot be taken away from you and I will never reject or leave you.
So, let us sum up what I have told you to do to hear My voice: be born again by receiving Jesus as your Lord, be filled with My Holy Spirit, have My Word in your heart and on your lips, practice My presence, talk with Me and ask Me questions, listen to Me, get rid of the static and clutter inside you that keeps you from being on My channel, such as anger, depression, bitterness, fear and doubts, and connect with Me and expect good things from Me.
But the bottom line is to have a heart tuned to Me– it is the line from Psalm 40: “To do Your will, O My God, is my delight and your Law is within my heart.” Jesus said this same line when He was among you as one of you and you must know that He heard My voice. Hebrews 10:7. In fact He never spoke anything but what He heard from Me. John 8:28. That is a very good way to walk in victory and power. He did, and you can too. Imitate Him and do the works He did, and greater ones. John 14:12.
And a very good way to move yourself right into My presence—through the gates to the throne room, is thanksgiving. Be thankful and what you have will multiply and you will hear from Me. Thanksgiving focuses your attention on Me and on My goodness to you personally.
Make room for Me in your heart. Do you recall the Shunammite woman? She so valued the Word of Elisha that she built a room for him (a dwelling place) up on her roof garden so that he would stay in her house whenever he passed by. 2 Kings 4:8. And she received a miracle. Make a room, a dwelling place, for Me in the garden of your heart and you too will have a life of miracles. It comes from hearing My Word. If you remain in My Word you may ask what you want and it shall be done for you. John 15:7.
I love you. Where is your heart tuned today? Is it on the love and light channel and did you tune in by faith? And have you stayed on the right channel all day by thanksgiving? A grateful heart is a faithful heart.
