“The Spirit of the Lord (Adonai) LORD (YHWH) is upon Me because the LORD (YHWH) anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD.” Isaiah 61:1-2; Luke 4:18-19.
It will happen in that day, that his burden will depart from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Isaiah 10:27.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God says:
After Jesus was baptized by John and the Holy Spirit rent the heavens and came down to rest upon and remain in Jesus, Jesus announced His mission statement from the words of the prophet Isaiah in the synagogue at Nazareth: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD.” Luke 4:18-19. He told the assembly present that “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:21. He was anointed by My Spirit to teach, preach, and heal. As My servant Peter would sum it up for the household of Cornelius much later, “You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38. And after Cornelius and his household heard the good news that in Jesus their sins were forgiven, the Holy Spirit fell on them and they were all anointed. Acts 10:43-46. The anointing lifts the burden and destroys the yoke of the slavery of sin and death that Adam put you all under.
Today we continue our series on how to receive and administer healing with Life Lesson No. 6: “The Anointing.”
The Messiah, the Christ, these names mean the “Anointed One.” They speak of oil, the anointing oil. I gave Moses very particular ingredients for the anointing oil for the High Priest, shared with his priest sons, and for the tabernacle and the holy things therein. It consecrated and set them apart as holy for the work of the ministry. Once the furnishings of the tabernacle were anointed and consecrated anything that touched them became holy. Exodus 30:25-29. The holy anointing oil was made with the finest of fragrant spices (myrrh, fragrant cinnamon, fragrant cane, and cassia) mixed into olive oil. The oil that lit the lamps on the golden lampstand (menorah) was pure olive oil.
In the New Covenant the anointing is not a physical mixture of oil but is the unction of the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit always was present in the anointing. When David was anointed as king, the Holy Spirit rushed on him and never left. Elisha wanted a double portion of the spirit, that is, the anointing, of Elijah for his ministry. The prophets spoke and wrote My Word by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
The anointing is an empowerment that endows the one anointed for a particular assignment, such as the king, the prophet, and the priest. My Spirit also gave skill to the workers called to construct My tabernacle and its finely crafted furnishings. When I gave Moses the plans for the tabernacle, My dwelling among the Israelites, I told him that I had called Bezalel of the tribe of Judah by name and filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, so that he had the ability to work in all kinds of craftsmanship. Exodus 25:1-5. Do you see the gifts of the Spirit operating? Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, and effecting of miracles. The gifts of the Spirit are anointings of the Spirit. And among those gifts you will find the gifts of healings.
Jesus said I had anointed Him with the Holy Spirit to preach good news to the humble, meek, lowly, and afflicted ones. He did this operating in the gifts of the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge, both of which you see in operation when He opened the heart of the Samaritan woman at the well to come to the saving knowledge of Him as Messiah and Lord. John 4:17-26. You see them operating when He healed the lame man by the pool of Bethesda. John 5:6.
He further said that I anointed and sent Him to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD. Do you see the anointings of the Holy Spirit there in distributing the grace gifts? Gifts of prophecy, the effecting of miracles, gifts of healings, and distinguishing of spirits.
When John the Baptist sent messengers to make sure he had correctly identified Jesus as the Messiah, the anointed One to come, what did Jesus tell the messengers to tell John to assure him that he had? “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them.” Luke 7:22. Why were these the signs of the anointed One? The prophecies of Isaiah, the one Jesus read as identifying the anointed one, and also others, “Say to those with anxious heart, take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance (against the evil one and those aligned with him); the recompense of God will come, but He will save you. Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will shout for joy.” Isaiah 35:4-6. The anointed One would come and He would bring the anointing and “it will happen in that day, that his burden will depart from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” Isaiah 10:27. Jesus destroyed the harsh yoke of Satan, He came to undo the works of the devil, and He did it by the anointing, by the Spirit. For I anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil. Acts 10:38.
Healing is a manifestation of My glory, which has to do with the anointing.
And just as I anointed Jesus, so He has anointed you. After I raised Him from the dead as Lord of Heaven and the earth, He came to those who believed in Him and said, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” John 20:21-22.
But there was more. They were now born again by the Spirit and the Spirit was in them but Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem until they were clothed with power from on High. Jesus had told His disciples that all who believed in Him would do the works He did and greater ones. The double portion. Does this remind you of the request of Elisha to Elijah? He wanted a double portion of his spirit. And what did Elijah answer him? It was not an easy request but if Elisha saw him go up, he would have his request. Well, Elisha watched Elijah go up and something wonderful happened. The mantle of Elijah fell down upon Elisha and the miracles began right then and they were double what Elijah had done.
What happened when Jesus ascended up to Me? The believers stood and watched until they could see Him no more, and ten days later, the mantle fell and clothed them with power from on High. The double portion anointing to do the greater works. The same anointing in and on them. And the double portion of the firstborn, joint heirs with Christ, who is the firstborn of many brethren empowering all believers to walk in the same anointing, the healing anointing, freeing all those oppressed by the devil.
The anointing has to do with gifts and callings so that you, as My apostle Paul exhorted the Thessalonian believers, “would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.” 1 Thessalonians 2:12. It is anointed believers, that is, those who are filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, that are bringing Kingdom culture and glory into the earth by the gifts of the Spirit in operation in and through them. And by “Kingdom culture” I mean righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. And healing has a lot to do with that. In the Kingdom all is based on justice, honor, integrity, righteousness and it breeds an atmosphere of nobility and perfect shalom. In My Kingdom the banner over you is Love, but it is pure love of the highest level. It is a unity between God and man and unity among men in that all are of one heart and one purpose which is for the benefit of all.
In the end of this age and the ushering in the eternal Kingdom, the anointing will be upon all. “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:3-4. And that is what the anointing does, it does away with the works of the devil and makes all things new in the perfect wholeness they had when I first set forth to create the heavens and the earth. Do you see it now? “The Spirit of the Lord is upon because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD.” Luke 4:17-18.
You know My Word is always very precise. In the Hebrew, the language in which this passage was originally written, it begins: “The Spirit of the Lord (Adonai) LORD (YHWH) is upon Me because the LORD (YHWH) anointed Me.” You see it is the Spirit of Adonai YHWH. Adonai means “Lord” as referring to God and man, so it ultimately refers to the God Man, Jesus. YHWH is MY Covenant Name and denotes no one else but Me It is My covenant Name that I shared with Moses. I call the Holy Spirit both My Spirit, the Spirit of the Father, and I call Him the Spirit of Jesus. But when Jesus became man and emptied Himself of His powers of God, it was I who anointed him, not He Himself. And He now baptizes you in the Holy Spirit and fire but He pours Him down from My throne.
Paul told Timothy to fan the gift within him that came with the imposition of Paul’s hands into flame. How do you do that? Give the fire fuel. Like Jesus did for the disciples on the Road to Emmaus. He fed them with the Scriptures from Moses to the prophets to the psalms and scripture that referred to Him, the anointed Word, and the dying embers in their cold hearts were fanned into flame. You have to feed a fire to make it burn. A fresh anointing came and lit the lamps of their spirits. A good dose of My anointed and prophetic Words can do the same for you.
I love you. Jesus has poured out His anointing on you in double measure. So, as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 1 John 2:27. Put the anointing to work in your life. Do not receive My grace in vain. And what do you do with the anointing? What Jesus did, you heal the sick, raise the dead, and preach the good news. You lift the burden and destroy the yoke of Satan.
Instead of your shame you will have a double portion, and instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land, everlasting joy will be theirs. Isaiah 61:7.
