Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Psalm 24:10.
O LORD of hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You! Psalm 84:12.
And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.” Isaiah 6:3.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
I AM the King of glory, the LORD of hosts, YHWH Tsevaot (צְבָא֑וֹת יהוה). Do you know who the hosts are? The first time anyone prayed to Me by that Name it was Hannah when she prayed to have a child. The literal meaning in Hebrew is “LORD of armies”: Tsa-va (צבא) is the word for army and Tsa-va-ot (צבאות) is the plural. Multiple armies.
Today we continue our instructions on knowing Me by knowing My Name with Life Lesson No. 10: YHWH Tsevaot – The LORD of Hosts.
The first time the word “hosts” appears in the Bible is right at the beginning, “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the HOST of them.” (Genesis 2:1). By My Word the heavens were made and by the breath of My mouth their host.
When I brought My people Israel out of Egypt I said that at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, all My hosts went out from the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:40-41. And on that same day I brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt above (upon, over) their hosts. And what did I tell Moses about how I would give the sons of Israel the land I swore to Abraham to give them? “For My angel will go before you and bring you in to the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will completely destroy them.” Exodus 23:23. My Host.
And as Joshua prepared to attack Jericho on entrance to the promised land you see again who is with the sons of Israel to fight the battle with them as I promised Moses. So it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and he beheld one with the appearance of a man standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” He said, “No; rather I indeed come now as Prince of the host of the LORD.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord (Adonai) to say to his servant?” The Prince of the LORD’s host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:13-15. He is the Prince of Shalom, and He is also willing to fight for that shalom for My people.
I revealed this to My apostle John in showing him the things to come and he wrote in the Spirit, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:11-16. The armies which are in Heaven are following on white horses. I will tell you more about this endtime army in a moment.
There are earthly armies that each country with a military has but there are also My heavenly armies, the Heavenly Host that were created by the breath of My mouth. And if earthly armies are with Me, My host will join them in battle. I AM on and at the side of the righteous. My angel encamps around those who revere Me to rescue them. Psalm 34:7. A single believer or an entire army of believers can join with My angelic host to move things on earth. You see this in the life of David when he fought Goliath, it was My angel that guided that stone. You see this as Joshua and army of Israel knocked down the walls of Jericho with a shout in union with My Host. And then consider Daniel in the lions’ den—I sent My angel to hold the jaws of those hungry lions shut all night so that Daniel was not harmed at all. And consider when Peter was put in jail by Herod who planned to kill him—My angel came and rescued him as the church prayed on his behalf.
Jesus, when He was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, said He could have called on Me to rescue Him and I would have sent twelve legions of angels. My host is ready to obey My Word in answer to your prayers who are My children.
And do you recall My prophet Elisha’s encounter with My heavenly host? The king of Aram sent his army with horses and chariots to capture and put an end to Elisha, who kept revealing his battle plans to the king of Israel by revelation of My Spirit (Word of Knowledge and Word of Wisdom), and during the night they surrounded the city where Elisha lived. When the attendant of Elisha had risen early and gone out, he beheld the army with horses and chariots that was circling the city. And ran to Elisha and cried out, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” Elisha responded calmly, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” The servant wondered at that so Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And I opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. I had sent My Host. This tells you more about what My armies consist of angels (and sometimes, as with Hezekiah, I need only send one angel to take care of the battle), heavenly horses and heavenly chariots. You see these coming for Elijah when he departed this world. And when the believers join with Me and I fight with them by My host, they too become a part of My host.
David fought many a battle and he knew about angelic help. He sang, “Bless the LORD, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His Word, obeying the voice of His word! Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, you who serve Him, doing His will.” Psalm 103:20-2. They respond to the voice of My Word, even in your mouth.
I give My angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11-12. I give each believer in covenant with Me his or her own personal guardian angel, and that angel is only your angel and stays with you, that is, all of you whose names are written in the Book of Life. I also give each of you a beautiful white heavenly horse that is only yours to ride when you come clothed in white linen (having washed your robes in the Blood of the Lamb) with the armies of Heaven for the final battles. Revelation 19:11-16. Oh! What wonders there are all around you that
My angelic Host is constantly working, constantly at attention throughout the world. And they are there for you. I created angels by the breath of My mouth to be ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation. Hebrews 1:14. I send them to protect and defend the righteous. They fight against the wicked and ungodly. I told Moses, “Behold, I am going to send an angel before you to guard you along the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. Be on your guard before him and obey his voice; do not be rebellious toward him, for he will not pardon your transgression, since My Name is in him. But if you truly obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.” Exodus 23:20-22.
David knew the role of angels as well, he sang, “Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of buckler and shield and rise up for my help. Draw also the spear and the battle-axe to meet those who pursue me; say to my soul, “I am your salvation.” Let those be ashamed and dishonored who seek my life; let those be turned back and humiliated who devise evil against me. Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them on. Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them.” Psalm 35:1-6.
Jesus made it clear to you that the angels would be involved in the final judgment of the earth. “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” Matthew 13:41-43. And again, “The kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea, and gathering fish of every kind; and when it was filled, they drew it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 13:47-50.
If you look in the book of Revelation, who is pouring the bowls of wrath on the wicked in the endtimes? The angels. Revelation 16:1. And who is adding incense to the prayers of the saints on the golden altar of incense before Me? The angels. Revelation 8: 3. They work for the righteous, but woe to the wicked.
And even in Heaven, when Satan and his angels were cast out, it was Michael and his angels who waged war against them and knocked them out so there was no place for them any longer. Revelation 12:7-9.
When you call Me as the LORD of Hosts, there is so much in that Name. There are myriad armies of angels, heavenly chariots and horses, at My disposal, and I AM a warrior for you, mighty in battle, but there is much more. If you read the book of Haggai and of Malachi you will see other assignments that My heavenly host perform for you. Have you not read the Name by which I promise to open the windows (floodgates) of Heaven to you and rebuke the devourer if you tithe and make offerings to Me? “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing you cannot contain. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes,” says the LORD of hosts. “All the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful land,” says the LORD of hosts.” Malachi 3:10-12. Angels sent forth to bring you blessings beyond what you can contain and to fight off the destroyer. The wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous. Wealth by the LORD of Hosts. Mine is the silver and the gold, ‘“all you people of the land take courage and work; for I am with you,’ declares the LORD of hosts. ‘As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!’ For thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land. I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts. ‘The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,’ declares the LORD of hosts. ‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares the LORD of hosts.” Haggai 2:4-9.
How did Hannah know to call upon Me as the LORD of hosts? She wanted to hear from Me and get the answer and she was in the tent at Shiloh near the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant. And where did I speak to Moses? I told him that I would meet with him in the Holy of Holies above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, from there I would speak to him about all that I would give him in commandment for the sons of Israel. Exodus 25:22. Hannah knew that from the Torah. And what had I told Moses? “There shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.” Exodus 23:26. So it is no surprise then, that it was Hannah, a barren woman, who called upon Me as LORD of hosts for the first time in prayer. I am enthroned upon the cherubim. 2 Samuel 6:2 (“And David arose and went with all the people who were with him to Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the very name of the LORD of hosts who is enthroned above the cherubim.”) She cried out to the One who is able to create, to whom every cell and atom are called to attention. She knew that her hope lay only with the One whose voice the whole host of heavens and earth must obey. She knew that the command of the LORD of Hosts must be executed. And it was.
I love you. Let Me fight your battles with you and for you and let Me teach you how to profit and the way you should go. Covenant. The angelic host serves those in Covenant with Me.
