“For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” Mark 9:49-50.

Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:

Keep salt in your hearts. You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has become tasteless how can it be salty? It is no good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. Matthew 5:13.

I put salt in the earth from the beginning and it has a number of uses. It flavors food and is used as a binder and stabilizer. It is also a food preservative, as bacteria can’t thrive in the presence of a high amount of salt. I made your body so that it requires sodium to conduct nerve impulses, contract and relax muscles, and maintain the proper balance of water and minerals. Salt can be used to clean and treat wounds and to promote healing.

But when I talk about salt in connection with you being salt, salt being in your heart or to My Covenant of salt I mean more than the physical properties of salt, but the spiritual aspect of what salt signifies.

I have put you who believe in the earth as salt, the salt of the earth. You, the Body of Christ, the church on earth, are adding flavor to other’s lives, preserving My Word and preserving those who will listen to you from the wrath to come, healing wounds, and washing out filth with My Word.

I told Moses that every grain offering the people brought to My tabernacle was to be seasoned with salt, so that the salt of My covenant would not be lacking from their grain offerings. In fact, with all their offerings they were to offer salt.  Leviticus 2:13.

I told Moses that every grain offering the people brought to My tabernacle was to be seasoned with salt, so that the salt of My covenant would not be lacking from their grain offerings. In fact, with all their offerings they were to offer salt.  Leviticus 2:13.

I told Moses to tell the priests that, “All the offerings of the holy gifts, which the sons of Israel offer to the LORD, I have given to you and your sons and your daughters with you, as a perpetual allotment. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD to you and your descendants with you.” Numbers 18:19.

I gave the rule over Israel forever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt. 2 Chronicles 13:5.

And when the ruler of Jericho asked Elisha to purify the water so they could drink it. He went out to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, “Thus says the LORD, ‘I have purified these waters; there shall not be from there death or unfruitfulness any longer.’” 2 Kings 2:21. And so it was.

And I tell you who believe in Me that you are the salt of the earth and that your speech should always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. Colossians 4:6.

Salt livens up bland food.  Job put it this way: “Can something tasteless be eaten without salt, or is there any taste in the white of an egg? My soul refuses to touch them; they are like loathsome food to me.”  Job 6:6-7.

Why do I tell you to keep salt in your hearts and that I have a covenant of salt with you? Why do I tell you that you are the salt of the earth?

It is all summed up in My Words in Revelation to the church of Laodicea:  “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.”  Revelation 3:15-16.  That is being without salt. Lukewarm with respect to My Word and lukewarm with respect to My wonderful plans for your life. You just don’t care and give them no attention. No seasoning, no sharpness, just bland, just lukewarm.

Some of you started out so excited about Me, My Word, and your assignment, and then as time passed and nothing seemed to come to pass of the great things you dreamed of doing and new trials arose every day, everything became flat and disappointing. And you have become sluggish about My promises and just kind of keep up the outward show but the inner joy is gone. No spice of life. The salt has gone flat.

How do you keep salt in your hearts and not let that salt go flat so that it is useless and is thrown out to be trampled underfoot?

You will be salted with fire. I will show you the way to stay hot and salty before Me.

Be thankful.  That may sound too simple to wake you up to righteousness, but thanksgiving is the catalyst that ignites your faith to dynamite power. Give constant thanks.  You enter My gates with thanksgiving.

You cannot be thankful and be lukewarm. You cannot be thankful and be unsalty.  You cannot be thankful and be unfruitful. You cannot be filled with thanksgiving and not be filled with joy. The voice of thanksgiving works wonders! It took down three enemy armies for Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah. 2 Chronicles 20.

Being amazed at and thankful for all the wonderful things I do for you each day will keep your hearts burning within you and our relationship joined in a covenant of salt.

And being thankful for what I have done for you in Jesus is the ultimate way to make your heart burn within you. Seeing My plan of Salvation through the Old Testament– seeing Jesus in the books of Moses (Torah), the Prophets and the Scriptures and why He had to suffer and undergo what He did for you– made the hearts of the depressed disciples burn within them on the Road to Emmaus as My Son walked with them and opened all that concerned Him in My Word to them.

When you realize how beautiful and blameless I have made you in Jesus and how I have given Him to you to pay Me in full for the debts you owe to divine justice due to your sins and omissions your hearts will burn with love and your salt will never go flat.  Why? You will be thankful that in Him you are the righteousness of God and can never lose that by your behavior because it is not based on your behavior but His.

You will be salted with fire. Remember that to purify the lips of Isaiah to speak My Words to My people I touched his lips with a goal of fire from My golden altar of incenses in Heaven? And salt is an ingredient of incense.

You are blessed without measure and a blessed person, who knows he or she is blessed, is a thankful person.

But if you do not see that blessing you will not be thankful.  You will be bitter.  And that is not the seasoning you want in your heart and hanging over your life. No bitter roots or they will shut the door to your heart so tight that I cannot give you the blessings I am trying to give you. Like the elder son of the father in the story of the prodigal son.  Everything the father had was his but he failed to realize it, never took it, and was not thankful.

I promised David that the Messiah would come from His line and be forever on His throne and I tell you in My Word that this was the covenant of salt I made with David. Think of what David did.  He sang to Me.  He was grateful to Me.  He blessed and thanked Me at all times and he invites you to do the same, for he knew the great benefits that came from a lifestyle of thanksgiving. He never lost a battle and he was never injured in battle, no matter how big or great the enemy he faced. Like Goliath.

I will bless the LORD at ALL times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD; the humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. Psalm 34:1-3.

He sang praises to My Name even in the darkest hours as he hid in caves from Saul and the army of Israel.  And when he became King he ordered the Levites to offer songs before Me with lovely musical instruments that David had designed 24/7.  And when I promised him the Messiah he responded with such great gratitude and humility. “Who am I LORD and what is my house that you have brought me this far?” 2 Samuel 7:18. And he wrote that in his songs too.  “What is man that you should be mindful of him?  But you have given him rule over the works of Your hands.” Psalm 8:4.

David was a man of praise, and it was sincere, he was excited about all the wonders I worked in his life.  David was thankful.  A descendant of David, a woman of humility and praise, was Mary, the chosen mother of My Son, prophesied from the beginning, was, above all, thankful.  She sang that I the Almighty had done great things for her, and called herself a lowly servant.  I exalt the humble.  She watched with love as My Word became flesh and she treasured all things in her heart. She pondered upon things with gratitude and love. She was part of the covenant of salt I made with David for she brought forth the one that would rule from David’s throne forever.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.” Luke 1:30-33.

Hannah was grateful to Me and I gave her Samuel and then five more children. She had a heart seasoned with salt. My prophet Daniel was thankful for My care and revelations to him.  And My Son often gave thanks to Me.  Paul was the same.  Filled with gratitude and overflowing with joy.  He learned well from My Son and he was so thankful for the work of grace that My Son had done in him.

Psalm 92 gives you insights on never becoming lukewarm and unsalty. It begins:

It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night, with the ten-stringed lute and with the harp, with resounding music upon the lyre. For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.  How great are Your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep.”  And it goes on to finish:  “The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.  Planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green, to declare that the LORD is upright; my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” Psalm 92:1-5; 13-15.

And that is renewal of youth. Yielding fruit in old age. Salty.

Be thankful.  You have eternal life.  You have a healer, a provider, a shepherd and a king.  You have a brother and friend that is God Himself.  You have nothing to fear.

Salt is medicinal, a good cleansing agent, and a merry heart does good, like a medicine. Keeping salt in your heart will keep you alert in prayer and strong in healing.

Being salty is being filled with the Holy Spirit, the fire of My love.

My servant Paul gave you advice of how to stay filled with My Holy Spirit, “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father.”  Ephesians 5:18-20.

And again he writes: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.” Colossians 3:15.

I warned the Israelites about not being thankful but complaining and grumbling even when they had it very good, “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things; therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in the lack of all things.”  Deuteronomy 28:47-48.

Being thankful and rejoicing in the good things in your life multiplies and increases what you have but being ungrateful and unhappy can make you lose the little you think you have.

Jesus only had five loaves and two fish for a crowd exceeding 5,000 men.  But He did not complain to Me that He had so little.  He took the bread and gave thanks and it multiplied.  Do you understand?  Be thankful for what you have and I can multiply it.

I love you.  Keep salt in your heart and keep the light of My love burning in your heart.  Just keep your eyes on My Word and you will have joy unspeakable and a life filled with My glory.  It is there for you even now.  And that salt will never go flat. My Word will season up your life. And when you share it, you will season the lives of others as well, and then they can pass it on too!
