After hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. For she was saying, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” Mark 5:27-28.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
You are saved by grace through faith. My part is to give you grace—pour My divine life, skill, wisdom, healing, and all good things and perfect gifts into your life—and your part is to actively receive them by faith. Faith is not passive, it is active. It will not sit still, give up, or take a back seat when it has found the answer to what is needed in My Word. Faith connects and expects. Faith knows how to tap into the source of grace.
But it is more than that now under My everlasting Covenant as amended and restated in Jesus, for now you can live your life through Him and as He is so are you in this world.
What am I saying? Through Jesus obtaining for you the gift of the Holy Spirit which He poured down from My throne on all believers the day Pentecost was fulfilled, you are filled with the power that flows from My throne welling up within you and running over as rivers of life-giving water to a thirsty world. The power to heal is present, not just in Jesus, but also in all you who believe in Him and have been born again from above. You are clothed in power from on high. It is not inherent to you but it has been given to you to bless the world.
I so loved the world I gave you My Son, and as I sent Him to go about doing good and healing all those oppressed of the devil, so He sends you, His body on earth, the Church. YOU are to do the works He did and greater by My Spirit whom I have entrusted to you.
In looking at the two conversations we will consider today, which are two miracles that came about intertwined in time, I want you to ponder that you are under the same covenant but amended and restated to carry better promises. Now you do not just have faith to be healed, but faith to heal others by the power that is in you, the same Spirit that indwelt Jesus, is in you. But it is still the same precious faith, whether to receive or to administer healing. And you will learn much on how to operate in faith in these two conversations. One with a woman who had suffered an ailment for twelve years with no relief and the other with a twelve year old girl who had become so ill she died. One miracle was received through the faith of the woman receiving and the other through the faith of the father interceding for his daughter.
In the last Life Lesson we left off with Jesus having cast the demons out of the man of Gadara and leaving him to preach the Gospel to the ten cities. After the crowd who lost the pigs to leave, Jesus crossed over again in the boat to the other side. When He arrived with His disciples, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore. Mark 5:21. As they returned, people had spotted Him arriving and a large crowd gathered. In fact, they had all been waiting for him. Luke 8:40. One of the synagogue leaders from Capernaum named Jairus heard and came up, and on seeing Him, he fell at His feet and implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.” He had declared the end from the beginning by faith. And even though the circumstances got worse, be never backed off from that declaration and it turned out just as he had believed in his heart and spoken with his mouth because he refused to change his testimony even when it later turned to what in the natural was impossible. And Jesus went off with him; He knew when He saw faith that the miracle would happen. That is why He often asked the person who came to be healed, “Do you believe I can do this?” He was looking for faith. As He will when He returns as well. He knows all things are possible for those who believe. Why? Because they plug into My power and are good conductors of My power.
As He went with Jairus, a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him, slowing down their progress to get to the home of Jairus. Mark 5:22-24.
Jairus knew Jesus for Jesus taught in and worked miracles in the synagogue at Capernaum where he was in charge. When his daughter became seriously ill, he knew he needed Jesus and he did not care whether the religious leaders ousted him or not, his concern was for his dying daughter, so he went to Jesus and bowed down prostrate at his feet imploring Jesus to come to lay His hands on his daughter so she would get well and live. This was seeking God’s glory and not praise from men. This was a heart for his daughter above his own reputation with the other religious leaders who had rejected Jesus. He had faith and faith declares and acts.
He came in an attitude of humility and worship but you can see by his declaration that he came with complete confidence that Jesus would perform what he asked. He declared exactly what would take place, speaking the end from the beginning. He is an example of the approach to My throne of grace as set forth in Hebrews 4:16. He came reverently and devoutly to Jesus with complete confidence that he would receive mercy and find grace just when he needed it. And he did. Jesus went with him.
Come to Me in worship, declare to My Word in prayer with thanksgiving, and leave with the result you declared by faith in accordance with My Word.
But now came another story of a woman with an affliction that had robbed her of her livelihood, her health, and was destroying her life. She had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— but after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched the edges of His cloak. For she was saying, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Mark 5:25-29.
Faith comes by hearing. This woman had not found any relief for twelve years but then a wonderful thing happened—she heard about Jesus and faith comes from hearing. And after hearing she started speaking over and over, “If I just touch His garments I will get well.” And this got her to go out of her house, where she was confined in her unclean condition and weakness, to go and touch Jesus.
“And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well.” But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once the woman was made well.” Matthew 9:20-22.
She touched the tzit tzit, the fringe with the blue cord that I ordered the Israelites to put in the corner edges of their garments to remind them of My Covenant. Numbers 15:37-41. These were to be on the corner edges of their garments, which in Hebrew is the word “kanaph” which also means wings, rays, that is the extremities. And My prophet Malachi, in prophesying of the coming Messiah referred to Him as the Sun of righteousness dawning with healing in his “kanaph.” Malachi 4:2. The division between the leaders and the people was whether Jesus was the Messiah, and one of the signs of His coming was amazing healings taking place such as had never been performed. She knew and she went for the “kanaph” the corner edges of His garment. And her faith connected to the power that was present to heal that resided in Jesus by My Spirit in Him. She did not have that power in her so she had to get to His physical presence to connect. But now you who have confessed Jesus as Lord, have My Spirit dwelling in you and you can take hold of that healing power right where you are right now.
Let us back to Mark’s account, which is the most complete, “Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. Mark 5:30-33.
Many people were pushing against Him but they were not connecting with Him by faith, this woman connected to the power with her faith and pulled it right into herself. Faith is a force, a magnetic force in the spirit that brings my power right to it but faith goes further than a magnet it also becomes a conductor of that power into the person whose faith has attracted the power.
The best conductors of electrical power are those that offer no resistance to it. Silver is the metal that is the best conductor of electricity, and if you recall silver is the metal that represents redemption in My Word and in the design of the tabernacle in the wilderness that I gave to Moses, because it contains a higher number of movable atoms (free electrons). For a material to be a good conductor, the electricity passed through it must be able to move the electrons; the more free electrons in a metal, the greater its conductivity. But there are also what are called superconductors, and that would be similar to great faith. Superconductors are materials that conduct electricity with no resistance. This means that, unlike the more familiar conductors such as copper or steel, a superconductor can carry a current indefinitely without losing any energy.
Doubts, fear, unbelief, hardened hearts, unforgiving hearts, evil hearts filled with hatred and jealousy do not conduct power because they offer resistance to it. You connect to My promises by faith, and if you develop your faith by hearing and speaking and obeying My Word you can become a superconductor. And that is what the woman with the hemorrhage had become.
So let us continue with the account of the incident: “But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go into peace and be healed of your affliction.” Mark 5:33-34. My healing power was there for all but her faith was what connected to it and made her benefit from that power. But My Son cautioned her to go into peace, that is, no fear that the illness would return. To keep her healing she had to keep walking in peace and no fear, true faith is a rest, a confidence of good results, for the enemy would try to put it back on her again if he could make her doubt she had really been totally healed and start drawing back. But she boldly spoke her testimony. She told Jesus the whole truth.
And one more point here, though there are many more treasures here to search out, the word translated “affliction” is the Greek word “mastigo” which means to scourge, sickness is like a scourge, but it is also the same word used when Pilate had Jesus scourged. By His stripes (bloody scourging), as My prophet Isaiah foretold, you are healed. She was saved and made whole looking forward to the bloody scourging that was soon to fall upon My Son to purchase healing for all.
But now the focus goes back to Jairus. While Jesus was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?” Mark 5:35. Jairus had a choice now, he could just give up and say it was all over, he could be bitter about the woman that got healed while his little daughter had died. But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid, only believe.” Mark 5:36.
Here again you see the command to be at peace and keep believing. You will stay in peace if you keep believing for the good result, that is, the favorable outcome. I surround you with My favor as a shield to fear. My Will is My favor to you for My Will is to heal you, to prosper you, to keep you in good health even as your soul prospers. So My Will is that you are whole financially, physically, mentally and emotionally by walking in the truth. There is great joy and peace in believing and there are miracles there as well.
Walking in faith should be a rest, not a roller coaster ride with highs and lows depending on the circumstances of the moment. Jesus was telling Jairus to stick with his initial faith declaration, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.” And to not draw back. And you know Jairus did not draw back, he kept going on with Jesus, and Matthew in his account tells the new confession he made, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.” Matthew 9:18. He was not going to let the circumstances change the outcome he had spoken in the beginning; he just adopted his confession a bit to state the new facts.
When Jesus got to Jairus’ home, He allowed no one to accompany Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James. Mark 5:37. These were His core group, His mighty men, who He could trust to stay in faith. At the house He saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing. And entering in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.” They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was. Taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded. And He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat. Mark 5:38-43.
The impossible had happened. The little girl had come back to life. The physician Luke in his account tells you, that Jesus “took her by the hand and called, saying, “Child, arise!” And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately; and He gave orders for something to be given her to eat. Luke 8:54-55. And Luke goes on to say that her parents were amazed. Even though Jairus believed and refused to fear the result still was amazing to him. And that is the way a miracle is. Amazing. Have faith and let Me amaze you beyond all you can ask or imagine.
No matter whether you are in a pit or on top of a mountain right now, know that you can have a good result by faith, and more than that, you can have the most awesome miracle that anyone has ever seen if you will work on building up your faith until you become a superconductor. That is believing in your heart and not doubting at all that if I promise it to you in My Word, you can have it manifest in your life.
But I am not quite done with this Life Lesson for I would like you to consider a very important point that I brought up at the beginning of this Lesson but would like to elaborate on a little more.
When you read the Gospels and you read about the miracles of Jesus, such as the raising of Jairus daughter, the woman who touched His garment that was hemorrhaging, the centurion, the leper, the man with the son who had convulsions, the multiplication of the loaves, the fish with the temple tax in its mouth, and so many more, who do you identify with? Almost one hundred percent of you who read My Word identify with the person being healed and try to learn how to conduct yourself in faith for a healing. You see yourself as the ones needing help. And this is good but there is more.
Know this, there is a big difference between every person who came to Jesus for healing or provision or some other request and you. They were not born again since Christ had not died and been raised yet. They did not have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them giving them POWER. My Power. Christ was not dwelling in them, as He does in you, He was walking among them.
Now I want you to consider the night when My Son was betrayed and was giving His disciples, and all who would believe in My Son through their words, instructions for when He was no longer physically with them—for He would be returning to Me having finished the work of redemption that I gave Him to do, and when He returned to Me, He promised to send you a very special gift—the Spirit of Truth, My Holy Spirit, in you and on you forever. Listen to what He said and you will know where I am heading with this: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14.
You should no longer be seeing yourself as the woman crawling through the crowd to touch the tassle on My Son’s garment, or Jairus asking the healing of his daughter, or the hungry crowd waiting to be fed, no, you should be seeing yourself doing what Jesus did and greater. You should see yourself raising the little girl from the dead, feeding the hungry crowd, and healing power emanating from you. You should see yourself stretching out your hand and cleansing the leper. You should see yourself embracing and blessing the children.
This is not pride, this is submitting to My Word. In fact if you are not doing the works Jesus did and greater there may be a problem with obedience here. For you do not perform them by your own power or might but, just as Jesus did, by My Spirit in you and on you. I am at work in you to will and to do all that is pleasing and perfect.
And after I raised Him from the dead when all was finished to make you into a new creation filled with power, dominion power, My Son told you who believe in His Name to cast out demons and they will flee, lay your hands on the sick and they will recover, and overcome all the forces of the enemy. And that nothing could harm you.
Peter and John took this seriously. Walking up to the beggar lame from birth at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple, they told him they would give him the gift they had, and in the Name of My Son the man was made perfectly sound as if he had walked, jumped, and danced all his life. They did the works Jesus did and greater. They could bring people to the new birth by taking Jesus as Lord.
And Peter was busy with greater works, and who would have thought after denying Me three times that Peter would become a champion? That is My work in you, I will complete the good work I begin in you. Peter did not see himself as the one needing healing, he just walked down the street and as many as got in his shadow were healed. That is THE BLESSING flowing out of him without work.
Read the Book of Acts and you will see believers doing the works Jesus did and greater. Look at Peter and John, Paul, Philip, Stephen, and so many more. They were not begging for anything, they were living it and giving it. They were enjoying the blessing as they increased more and more and they could not help but be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Signs, wonders and miracles took place as they stretched out their hands in prayer and praise.
They knew Me and walked with Me. And so can you. I never leave you or forsake you. And I have given you My Spirit so that you are one with Me and My Son.
You have no reason to ever lack, be sick, or be in fear again. I have provided for all your needs already according to My riches in Christ Jesus in glory, you have only to let it flow in you and to you by faith. But then is when it gets fun. You reach out your hands to others and do the works Jesus did and greater. And do you do these with love and compassion as He did to set people free and bring them to new birth so they too may go forth to do the works Jesus did and greater.
And He tells you what you are anointed to do: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable (jubilee) year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19. That is what you can do even now. Now is the acceptable time. Begin today.
I love you, abide in My love. I have given you everything I have, which is infinite, why are you whining all the day and letting a defeated foe run all over you? Step up and enjoy your destiny, your high calling in Christ. Dare to believe, in the Kingdom of Heaven there is only one thing that qualifies you for greatness and that is your faith.
