But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. John 17:13.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
When I reveal something to you twice in short sequence that means it is established and sure.
Now as for the repeating of the dream to Pharaoh twice, it means that the matter is determined by God, and God will quickly bring it about. Genesis 41:32.
Twice, the night of the Passover supper when Judas betrayed Jesus and handed Him over, Jesus told you that “these things” He had spoken to you were said by Him so that you could have His joy made full in you.
First, in His teaching on the Vine and the branches, He stated:
These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. John 15:11.
And second in His prayer to Me that the Holy Spirit has revealed to you:
But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. . . I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word.” John 17:13-14;20.
When you are filled with joy you are in a place of peace and light. Being full of joy means there is no room for anything else, no grief, sadness, mourning, regret, shame, blame, anger, offense, or any of the other tormenting emotions can find any place to lodge in you. So the question you should be asking, if you want the fullness of joy that nothing and no one can take from you, is what are “these things” to which He is referring. How do you find out? Simple, just read what is recorded that He said that night leading up to those statements. And that would be chapters 13, 14, 15, and 16 of John’s Gospel, supplemented by the things you find in Matthew, Mark, and Luke spoken at that meal the same night. We will now proceed to do this together and it may take a few Life Lessons to get the fullness thereof. But these things are for your joy, joy unspeakable filled with glory. For this will help you immensely in fulfilling the work I have given for you to do in the world before you come to Me filled with joy to be welcomed into the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Looking back, John starts the night with the washing of the disciples’ feet. When Peter protested at such humility of his Master, Jesus replied: “If I do not wash you, you have no part in Me.” That, of course, included His joy, for I anointed Jesus with the oil of joy as Messiah, Lord, and High Priest. So let us see how that will help you get filled with joy.
Having the supernatural joy that does not depend on circumstances, but on what is filling you requires that Jesus wash you clean, all the filth picked up in worldly paths on your feet you must shake off. Let Jesus interpret His own Word, which is My Word. Shortly after this statement, Jesus told the disciples, and you through His Words to them, “You are already clean because of the Word I have spoken to you.” John 15:3.
Jesus had poured My Word into them as their teacher and Lord for three full years as they were with Him night and day. And today it is the same for His body, His disciples, the Church, whom I liken to a bride of Christ because when you join with Jesus you become one spirit with Him, for He pours into you My promise of My Spirit in your heart making you pure and attuned to My voice and having a desire to keep My Word from the inside out.
But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 1 Corinthians 6:17.
And how does He clean your heart, mind, words, and actions?
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:26-27.
My Word not only cleanses out impurities of mind and heart but also wrong beliefs that are mere traditions of men or doctrines of demons.
“This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me. But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.” Mark 7:6-7.
Let us return to the words of Jesus at the Last Supper, what did He say about the washing of the feet further, for it reveals more of this washing with the water of the Word:
So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. John 13:12-17.
Jesus had told His disciples, and thus you as well, that the greatest one among you is the one who serves the rest. The leader is the servant of those he leads, like a good shepherd. And as I sent Jesus, so He sends you: to seek out and save the lost and undo the works of the devil in them. And how do you do that? Just like He does. You wash them with the blood of Jesus to release them from sin and divine justice, taking them from eternal death to eternal life, and you then wash them with water with the Word so they come to know the truth and continue in it so they are set free of all that holds them captive under the devil’s oppression. My desire is that all people be saved (the blood pays the judgment that you owe to Me and satisfies your sentence of eternal death) and come to know the truth (cleansed of all lies, deceit, and torment, set free by the cleansing Word to live the glorious life of good deeds for which they were recreated in Christ Jesus by being born again by the imperishable seed of the Word). 1 Timothy 2:4.
How do you follow Jesus’ example of service to the world? You are My ambassadors of reconciliation, proclaiming the good news of salvation and of the Kingdom. You are My witnesses to Jesus and the cleansing work of His blood and His Word (you overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of your testimony, My Word in your mouth and My Spirit in and on you is My Covenant with you in Christ Jesus), and as His witnesses you are cleaning those who hear you of the lies and filth of an immoral world that is hostile to Me as signs and wonders, the works Jesus did and greater, follow your cleansing words. You are My royal priesthood interceding with your great High Priest Jesus as those with dominion authority to release My Will being done upon the earth.
How do you do wash those you encounter with the water of the Word in your daily conversation at work, at school, in your home, and on the street? Here is your answer:
Let no rotten, unwholesome, impure word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:29-32.
Your words must cleanse others of the filth they are walking in as Jesus did and does today. Imitate Him.
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. Ephesians 5:1-3.
You will notice also that whenever Jesus talked about you sharing My joy and your joy being complete He coupled it with knowing the truth, which is defined by My Word, that sets you free from the evil in the world, the truth sets you apart as holy and consecrated, dedicated and sanctified by Me.
But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves. I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. John 17:13-19.
Jesus came to testify to the truth and that set Him apart as Holy to Me and it does you too.
Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” John 18:37
The blood and the Word are inseparable because it is the Word made flesh that bled for you making you clean and without blemish or reproach.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. John 15:7-11.
You see again that whether you have the bubbling fountain of My joy in you making your joy complete is based upon the amount of Word you are abiding in and that is abiding in you. If you know these you are blessed if you do them.
Thus far we have only studied the Words of Jesus upon the washing of the disciples’ feet, but we have found many rich treasures for you to ponder upon in your heart. We shall continue to consider more of these things, things that put My joy in you and make your joy complete, that He told you as important at the time He was about to finish His work upon the earth and return to Me, and the wonderful thing is that in spirit and truth you also were raised with Him.
I love you. Be of good cheer you have My joy if you want it, just fill up on My Words until My magnificent promises to you become the delight of your heart. But be careful that you also do them. Cleanse yourself and others with your edifying, encouraging, and exhorting (speaking the truth in love) words. Remember of all you think and say My Word is the plumbline.
Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I have been called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16.
