He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:9.
They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:7-9.
And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. Luke 12:42-44.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God says:
Where are you and what are you doing? Usually when I ask those questions of someone it means they are not on the right track and it is time for them to reconsider their ways and head in a new direction. But I allow you to evaluate where you are, what you are doing, and why you are doing it.
What if you have taken the wrong direction and now you are in a place and doing things you are not happy about? Do you just give up and continue on the path to destruction? Do you just allow the devil to continue to steal, kill, and destroy your life, your family, and all your dreams? Do you beg Me to let you go back and do what you knew you should but you went a different way? I have good news for you. You do not have to go back, all you need to do is go forward. How? Ask Me to put you now where you would have been if you had obeyed and done it originally. You can think of it like a GPS in your car, you set where you want to go from where you are and if you make a wrong turn, it recalculates to get you to your destination. In other words, it takes stock of where you are at the moment and sends you on the closest route that will take you where you want to go. It is not exactly the same route but it gets you there nonetheless. And so is “God’s Powerful Spirit (“GPS”). For you who are My children are led by the Holy Spirit and He knows where you desired haven is and He can lead you there no matter how many times you take a wrong turn by not listening to His direction.
Have you ever walked into a church, a sacred place, and felt the peace and presence that is there? It is My sanctuary. You relax and draw in a deep breath of the pure air of the sanctuary. Jacob felt it on Mt. Moriah and proclaimed it a house of God and a gate of Heaven. I told the Israelites to build Me a sanctuary—a place set apart filled with My glory in quiet peace and wherein is the joyous fellowship of prayer. David felt it and longed to be there constantly, “One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the delightful beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me. He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.” Psalm 27:4-6. “O, LORD of Hosts, how lovely is your dwelling place!” Psalm 84:1.
Spend your life in the pure air of My sanctuary, in the all-encompassing atmosphere of sanctity. Let it pervade your entire being, surround yourself in it wherever you go. Sanctify the Lord Jesus in your heart. There is perfect peace there. Abide there. Do not leave My presence, for in My presence is fullness of joy. Refuse to be pulled out of that holy and sacred place by allowing in the unclean. Jesus made a whip of cords and drove the unclean out of My temple. Do not turn your inner sanctuary into a marketplace for the traffic of the world, for My Spirit dwells in you and you have become My sanctuary. So set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in Me. When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Colossians 3:2-4.
Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. Do not let them defile My sanctuary. put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Put on the new self for I have sanctified you in Christ and set you apart as a royal priesthood ministering in the inner sanctuary.
Make everywhere you are, everywhere you walk, a sacred place, a sanctuary of the Most High. “For you have made the LORD your refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place. No evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent.” Psalm 91:9-10. In My sanctuary, in My hand, the evil one cannot touch you—filled with the Holy Spirit there is no room for any other spirit, for the temple is filled with My glory. The glory of the LORD of Hosts.
Through prayer and worship and praise in your heart you create a sanctuary where I can come to fellowship and rest with you in the quiet stillness of a heart that is wholly Mine. A garden enclosed where we can walk through your day together. For all outward appearances the extraordinary that is within may not be known but you must know by faith that sweet place that is within you night and day, for I never leave you or forsake you and I am not about to do so even now.
If you want to walk in peace and power, in the quiet stillness of the sacred sanctuary, you can. My Spirit is in you and on you and I have put My Words in your mouth. Abide in My Words and let My Words abide in you and you will be resting in the sanctuary. It is good to be here.
Where are you and what are you doing? Your answer should be that you are in the sanctuary doing whatever work I have given you to do. If not, you are not in the right place.
I love you. Do you love the house in which I dwell? You should for that house is you.
How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You. Psalm 84:4
