He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!” For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. Psalm 91:1-3.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
Perfect protection is available to you who believe. And you can dwell in it at all times if you so desire. And it is in that place that no evil shall be allowed to befall you and no plague come near you. Psalm 91:9-10. What is this place? My secret place where I keep you from every weapon that would harm you. You may think this sounds impossible in these perilous times, but nothing is impossible for Me and all things are possible for those that believe that. If you will put your times in My hands, I can work with you, for you, and in you.
And that is today’s Life Lesson of what to do when Satan attacks: “Dwell in the Secret Place of the Most High.” My Word is truth and that is where you can learn My ways and see My works. And I have given you instructions on how to have perfect protection in these troublesome times where evil is moving to take strongholds in the nations of the world, for “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” Luke 10:19-20.
Now we will look at My Spirit-breathed instructions in Psalm 91, which is a treasure trove of what to do so you should take careful note if you want protection so that you will never be caught in the snare of the devi. It begins with where the protection is:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!” For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence.” Psalm 91:1-3.
What is the secret place? In the Hebrew language in which that passage was first written it is the word “seter (סֵתֶר)” which means a covering, a hiding place, secrecy. When David sang that under My wings he sang for joy till harm passed by he called being under My wings the “seter.” It is here that you are in My Hand and I hold you there inaccessibly high, the Most High.
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:27-30.
My servant David found a way into the secret place where he was protected from the floods out of the devil’s mouth. As long as he kept his failing and sin to himself, he was ridden with guilt, but then what did he do? “I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD”; and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.
Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him. You are my hiding place (seter); You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:5-7. David was singing under My wings in the secret place and now he tells you I was singing over him, and I was singing songs of deliverance. And his conclusion? “Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him. Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones; and shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” Psalm 32:10-11.
My secret place is a place of joy. “For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
in the secret place (seter) of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.” Psalm 27:5-6.
“We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.” 1 John 5:18.
And how do you enter this secret place in Me? I tell you in the next line, “I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!” You have to say something and specifically that I am your refuge and your fortress and you trust in Me. Just saying that strengthens you and puts your mind in the right place—above where Christ is seated at My right hand and I have seated you there with Him when you believed in Him and confessed Him as Lord. You are safe with Me there at the throne of grace. My Kingdom has very high walls and the gates are only open to those who have entered the door of Jesus. Revelation 21:17-18.
“Violence will not be heard again in your land, nor devastation or destruction within your borders; but you will call your walls salvation, and your gates praise.” Isaiah 60:18.
If you remain in My Word and My Word remains in you, then you are abiding in Me. “Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.” John 14:23-24.
First to stay in the secret place you must be abiding in My Word, that is, speaking, saying, singing and doing My Word. And My Words are filled with treasures and good things. They are more precious to you than a heap of fine gold and sweeter than honey dripping from the comb. They are Spirit and life. They are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh. If you have not known My Word this way it is time you got to know My Word by looking at the works of Jesus when He walked among you as one like you in all things but sin. He is My Word in the flesh, living and working.
And the next line is what I do for you in My secret place. Your part was to say: “My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust,” and abide in My Word, and then My part begins: “For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.” Psalm 91:3-4. Your part is to declare and trust that. My part is to do it. And when you put yourself in Me, I can act in your life. And I deliver you from the snare of the trapper. How? The gift of My Holy Spirit who tells you of the things to come, leads you and guides you to all truth. And He gives grace gifts, one of which is the discernment of spirits and a word of knowledge and a word of wisdom. Be as clever as snakes but as innocent as doves.
The next line is again your part, “You will not be afraid of the terror by night, or of the arrow that flies by day; of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or of the destruction that lays waste at noon. A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not approach you. You will only look on with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.” Psalm 91:5-8.
You are not to fear, no matter what the devil brings around you. In every trial, you are to know Me in whom you have believed and that I will deliver you out of them all. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:19. That is My promise to you who are in Jesus, for He has made you righteous with My own righteousness. I go before you, I am with you, and I am your rear guard. Isaiah 52:12.
If the spirit of fear comes on you, for that is how the devil operates, rebuke that unclean spirit and specifically address with My Word the particular fear he has put in your heart. He will always tell you that even if you were healed before it will not work this time. But tell him it will work because you are not trying to get healed you already are. By the stripes of Jesus you were healed. I sent My Word and healed you. Psalm 107:20. You will note it is in the past tense. I did it when Jesus died on Calvary, and by the blood of lambs and goats I acted as the LORD your healer even under the Old Covenant, how MUCH MORE now that My Son has shed His blood for you and paid the debt in full. Have confidence in My Word. Answer the fear and then tell that spirit to depart. And you have done what I tell you to do—submit to Me, that is, trust in My promises, resist the devil (answer the fear specifically and then tell him to depart from you) and he must flee.
If the devil brings thoughts of fear about your finances, and he will do this even when you have enough he will try to make you worry about future needs, address that fear. Do not worry about tomorrow, if you are seeking My Kingdom first and My righteousness, I add these things to you in accordance with My riches in glory in Christ Jesus. I have given you who believe My Kingdom and there is no lack of supply from your source. I have given you a good Shepherd and you will not lack. Declare that and then tell the spirit of fear to depart.
Take your position in the secret place and tell you particularly to not be afraid of the terror by night, or of the arrow that flies by day; of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or of the destruction that lays waste at noon. And it does not matter if others have fallen, if you cling to Me and call My Name it shall not approach you. You will only look on with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. Take your victory stance with Me seated above.
And in the next lines, I again remind you so you do not lose focus on this that the reason you can stand in perfect protection is because “You have made the LORD, your own refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place.” Psalm 91:9. And I assure you again of My part if you are abiding in Me in My Word, “No evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent.” Psalm 91:10.
This is a very great promise and you can have it if you are willing and obey the way I tell you to enter and stay in My secret place. Do not let your heart be troubled, do not let it be afraid. I have equipped you with My Word, My Spirit, the blood of Jesus, and every spiritual blessing in Heaven in Him. Use them. Why would you fear when you already have so great a Salvation? I have given you a great good Shepherd and a great High Priest. You have all you need and more for physical and spiritual life.
And then I tell you another way I work this for you. I am the LORD of hosts. “For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11. I have created angels to minister to those who are heirs of salvation, and that is all of you who are joint heirs with Christ by your faith in Him. These wondrous spirit beings are spun of pure love and they are there to help you. They respond to the voice of My Word, even in your mouth. And I send them to assist you and bring you healing and strength. They are also very much a part in bringing provision and protection to My people. Their work for you is as varied as your need, whether it being let out of prison, knocking down walls, bringing messages from Me, fighting battles with you and for you, or carrying you places to evangelize (remember Philip?)
And then the next line is your part again, “You will tread upon the lion and cobra, the young lion and the serpent you will trample down.” Psalm 91:12. You are not to entertain the devil or hold conversations with him, as Eve did, you are to tread on him and trample him underfoot. How do you do that? By refusing to allow the fiery darts (thoughts and offenses) he is shooting at you to dwell in your mind, in your mouth, or in your heart. You must answer him every time or he will just keep that negative thought, temptation, shame, guilt, blame, reproach, unclean thing swirling around you trying to find entrance. Stop it immediately and refuse to discuss it further. If it makes you confused, guilt ridden, unhappy, and alone it is not from Me and you must resist it by putting it down and taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, which is using your dominion authority on earth to further My purposes and My Kingdom of glory.
Do not put up with the devil’s tactics to load you with guilt, shame, fear, anxiety, addictions, offense, anger, malice, gossip and the like. Get in My secret place and go higher. Sing there and shut the door to fear. Worship there and become strong and whole. I have already seated you with Christ in heavenly places and put the devil and his demons under your feet. Keep him there and don’t let him wiggle his way out to torment you, for even it seems smart and fun at first, the fleeting joy of sin lasts but a moment, its consequences a lifetime and on to other generations.
And as we move on in Psalm 91, we now come to our shared parts: “Because as set his delight on Me in love, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16. These promises are for those who love and delight in Me, who know My Name, and who call upon Me. And what do I do for such as these? I deliver them, I set them securely on high BECAUSE they have known My Name. And what is My Name? The LORD your healer, the LORD your righteousness, the LORD your provider, the LORD your peace, the LORD your victory, the LORD your shepherd, the LORD your refuge, the LORD your helper, the LORD your redeemer, and there are more that you should know. And when you call on Me as your healer, I answer you as healer. When you call on Me as provider, I provide for all your needs, when you call on Me as helper, I help you. Call on the Name of Mine you need to manifest at the moment.
And if you notice this Psalm is full of My Names. It starts out with El Elyon, the Most High and then goes to the Almighty, which is El Shaddai, meaning I am enough for everything you need. And then it goes on to LORD, which is My forever Covenant Name made up of three tenses of the verb “to be” showing My eternal existence and that I am with you now as the living God. And then it goes on to “God” which is Elohim, showing the trinity in its letters.
And finally, the Psalm concludes, “I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16. And that is how perfect protection comes about. I AM with you, I rescue you, and I honor you, I give you a long satisfying life, and I show you My Salvation, Yeshuah, Jesus.
