They began to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread. Luke 24:35.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
They came to know Him in the breaking of the bread.
The two disciples walking to Emmaus on the day I raised Jesus from the dead had heard of the experiences of the women at the tomb but they were not convinced and were walking along dejected and sad, thinking their hope in Jesus was over and all had been in vain. But Jesus came to walk with them and they were so wrapped up in unbelief that they were restrained from recognizing Him.
It was the same with the Pharisees, they knew the law and the prophets’ writings very well and yet they were restrained from recognizing Jesus as the Messiah by their unbelief though He walked before them fulfilling every Scripture they already knew about the promised Messiah but they failed to understand them or My power.
But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. Matthew 22:29.
Why did they not see what should have been so obvious to scholars of My Word? They gave Me lip service, but their hearts were far from Me. Remember the Pharisee and the tax collector in the Temple court? The Pharisee prayed to himself; the tax collector prayed to Me. Where your heart is there is your treasure. The Pharisees and Sadducees never came to My banquet for My Son, they refused the invitation and the relationship.
And what did Jesus say to the disciples on the road to Emmaus, as He drew close to them about their doubt and unbelief?
And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. Luke 24:25-27.
Jesus explained the writings of Moses (the Torah, the first five books of the Bible), the prophets, and all Scripture (Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Songs, etc.) and showed them Himself in them, that is, Him as the substance of the shadows and types. And this began to open their ears and eyes of their hearts in faith, for faith comes by hearing and hearing My Word concerning Christ, but they did not perceive or recognize Jesus until He blessed, broke, and handed them the bread at their meal of fellowship after their walk with Him. First Jesus introduced them to My Word as seen in the light of Christ and then He gave them the bread of life. The recognition came at the table, at the banquet with Him being present to break the bread with them.
When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. Luke 24:30-31.
They heard the Word but they also had to eat the Word to know Him.
Be aware of His presence at the table of His Word with you. You are not eating alone by yourself or even just with fellow believers. You are not loading yourself with Scriptures and declaring them all alone, it is a fellowship meal. It is a wedding banquet for My Son and you as His bride. And that is not a distant relationship. I have called you to fellowship and partnership with My Son. 1 Corinthians 1:9. Covenant. He is your kinsman redeemer, like Boaz and Ruth foreshadowed.
For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. Matthew 18:20.
Notice I am not observing at the sidelines, I am in the middle where all can see Me and hear Me and talk with Me. And when you agree in My Name with My Word as you partake of it, I watch over My Word to perform it.
“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven, for where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” Matthew 18:19-20.
And Jesus is not only My Word but your great High Priest and your great good Shepherd and He is leading you right into the banquet set out at My throne where you are seated with Him and He is seated with Me.
He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. Revelation 3:21.
But it is even closer than that, even when two or more are gathered, even if it is a huge crowd, I do not see people as crowds, I see each one individually, and expect each one to relate to Me as an individual as well, that is, one-to-one, face-to-face, an interchange of hearts. Not just by talking to someone else about Me, or listening to anointed preaching of My Word, though both are wonderful, but to talk to Me and when you talk about Me or listen to someone else talking about Me, please include Me as present as well. I want all to know Me from the least to the greatest and in Jesus I have made that possible, for when you receive Him as Lord and are born again, My Spirit comes to dwell in your living spirit and we can fellowship.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:20.
When Jesus drew close to Zaccheus, He told him to come down from observing Jesus in the tree and to open his home to him so they could spend the day together. Zacchaeus came down quickly and with rejoicing opened his home and his heart to Jesus. He went from an observer of My Word to a partaker of My Word. And Jesus went with Zacchaeus and dined with him alone that day. Many or few, it is all about My relationship with you. And that is what you must remember at the table I set before you.
Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way. When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” And he hurried and came down and received Him with great rejoicing. Luke 19:3-6.
Salvation had come to his house that day and Zaccheus was never the same again. He had a relationship with Me through Jesus. And he followed the Word he had received and it changed his life forever. He became the loving, generous person he had been made to be as he dined with Jesus that day.
The same was true of he Samaritan woman who encountered Jesus at the well near Shechem in Samaria. Jesus was directed to go there by My Spirit and He did. Whether a crowd or one individual whose heart was thirsty for true Love, made no difference to Jesus. He looked for hearts that would come to the table and dine with Him by faith. And what began with an invitation to the banquet to partake of living water never to be thirsty again became a time of fellowship where the woman discovered the Messiah that she had heard of and longed for. And He had come to save her from her thirst for acceptance, love, and salvation and at that meal He gave her all she longed for and made her into a bold evangelist to go and invite others to the banquet so that they could be partakers as well.
So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men, “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Messiah, is it?” They went out of the city, and were coming to Him. John 4:28-30.
But before they got to Him, the disciples had returned to Jesus, for they had gone off to buy food for their journey, but Jesus had not gone with them but remained at the well waiting for the one I had directed Him to bring to the table I set before you. When they returned they were surprised He had been speaking with a Samaritan woman, but they did not question Him about it. Instead they noticed He was not eating of the food they had brought back with them.
Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work. John 4:31-34.
His fellowship with a lonely woman whom He had brought to the table of plenty I set before you in the sight of your enemies was a great meal for Him as it had been for the woman. Fellowship in My Word will fill you up and the living water of the Holy Spirit not only satisfies your thirsty heart but turns your water into the finest wine of My love.
And when the people of her city answered the invitation extended by the rejoicing woman, they came to the table and they found just what they needed and were searching for as well. So much so they invited Jesus to spend time with them and they feasted on His Words for two days.
From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. Many more believed because of His word; and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.” John 4:39-42.
It was no longer just hearing someone else talk about Me, they answered the invitation and entered into relationship directly with Me. My Son and I are one. He is the expression of My innermost being, My Word. And they feasted on that Word for two days before He returned to the Jews on the third day. Which is very significant to the church age.
Go to the table I set before you, to My banquet for the wedding feast of My Son, and eat and eat until you know Him. Faith comes by hearing and hearing (eating and eating) the Word concerning Christ and when you are so full that from that abundance in your heart your mouth speaks you will run to announce the Messiah to others and bring them to the table to feast with Him on His Word as well.
But until like the woman at the well in Samaria you believe that His Word is for you and all about you, and have personally dined with Him, you will be reluctant to share with others your treasured Messiah. You cannot know Me until you know Him and that He is My gift to you. In seeing Him, you see Me, knowing Him, you know Me, and hearing My Word concerning Him you know that I gave everything to take away your sins, your ills, your pain, your lack, your hunger for love and for the companionship of a helper, a comforter, a healer, an advocate, a deliverer, and a provider. And when you know all this, and have come to believe in My love for you, then you come with confidence to the banquet at My throne of grace and receive mercy and all that is on the table, grace on top of grace. And you will find that you are talking with Me in total oneness of love through Jesus.
And you will get so full that no evil attack, no tactic of the devil, can give you even one iota of fear. Why? Because you know Me and that My table of healing bread, fine wine, and the anointing till your cup overflows is there at all times for you. Jesus is always knocking so He can dine with you and you with Him, even in the presence of your enemies. But when you are focused on My Word you will not even notice their noise.
That we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3.
In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father. John 16:26-27.
I love you. Will you open the door when I knock? Never just be an observer when you can be a partaker. Looking at a picture of a raisin cake is not eating it. Selah.
