For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.” Hebrews 6:13-14.
Today your LORD (יהוה) God (אלהים) says:
The Blessing of Abraham. What does that mean to you? It meant everything to Jacob. He laid his life on the line, and so did Rebekah, for him to get it along with the first-born blessing as well and in Jesus you get them both, for both operate and are realized in Him, and you who are in Christ are joint heirs with Him. All He has is yours and all I have is His.
“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. John 16:12-15.
And just as through Jacob the Blessing of Abraham went to his line, the twelve tribes of Israel, so you too who are the body of Christ receive that Blessing through Christ.
It is a Covenant Blessing but of a particular kind. It is a blessing of obedience.
I told this to Abraham when he obeyed Me immediately when I asked him to give his beloved son, as I would later do.
“By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of His enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” Genesis 22:16-18.
What did that obedience mean? He loved and trusted Me.
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me. John 14:23-24.
Being obedient to follow whatever I tell knowing it is what will benefit you exceedingly is love at its best.
The LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed? For I have chosen him, so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him. Genesis 18:17-19.
And the Blessing of Abraham that his covenant descendants inherited was codified by the law of the Covenant of Moses as follows, and again it is the blessing of obedience, like Abraham, who heard My voice and obeyed. And because of his partnership with Me, I made of him a great nation, in fact, I called him the father of many nations.
Now it shall be, if you listen to and obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you listen to and obey the voice of the LORD your God: Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Blessed shall be the offspring of your body and the produce of your ground and the offspring of your beasts, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. The LORD shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways. The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your barns and in all that you put your hand to, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you. The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. So all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will be afraid of you. The LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your beast and in the produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you only will be above, and you will not be underneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I charge you today, to observe them carefully, and do not turn aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them. Deuteronomy 1:1-14.
The Blessing covers every area and facet of your life. And this Blessing has become yours in Christ Jesus
“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool. If you WILLING AND OBEY you will eat the best of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” Truly, the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Isaiah 1:18-20.
But let us go back to when Abraham was quick to even offer up his son Isaac as a burnt offering, though I did not allow him to actually do so. It was then that I gave him the messianic blessing more assured then when I first called him. I swore by Myself that I would greatly bless and greatly multiply him and that his seed would possess the gate of His enemies, singular– the Messiah for the gate of hell could not prevail against Him or His body the church.
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell will not overpower it. Matthew 16:15-18.
Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ. Galatians 3:16.
And ultimate resting place of the Blessing of Abraham is in Christ and from Him it goes to all who are in Him. For Jesus was the only one who qualified through perfect obedience to inherit the Blessing.
Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:5-8.
After saying above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the Law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:8-10.
Jesus is the imperishable seed that took flesh in the line of Abraham, born of a virgin descendant of Abraham of the tribe of Judah of the line of David, and dwelt among you and saved you from your sins. Jesus (Yeshuah), who became a curse for you by taking your sin from you though He had never sinned but lived a life of perfect obedience to My every commandment. And in Him I am well pleased. He always did what pleased Me.
So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” John 8:28-29.
Doing My Will was His delight and My law was in His heart. Psalm 40:8.
Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. John 15:9-10.
I love you. And that is the one commandment My Son gave you: Love one another. But it contains everything.
